Elly Blue
Elly Blue
Duties: Conference Coordinator
Modes of transportation: Telecommute, walk, bicycle, bus, carpool, light rail, and occasionally even driving a car

Elly is the conference coordinator for Towards Carfree Cities VIII. Elly has been carfree for most of her adult life. She has been working with the bicycle activist group Shift since 2004, and coordinated their weekend-long Portland Carfree Days street fair in September, 2006. She has been a columnist for the online news magazine BikePortland.org for two years.

Benjamin Doyle

Modes of transportation: Bike, roller skate and light rail

Benjamin is an avid bike rider and bike fun enthusiast. His current involvements include Shift, Bike Farm, and the PDX Bike Militia. When he’s not on a bicycle you’re likely to find him on roller skates, often as a referee for the Rose City Rollers roller derby league. Benjamin’s colorful resume includes work with Metro, Portland Transportation Options, and a number of non-for-profit organizations. He currently works with Alta Planning + Design, a firm specializing in bicycle & pedestrian infrastructure, green spaces, and non-motorized transportation.

Corey Schuster
Corey Schuster

Duties: Sponsorship and publicity

Corey is one of the organizers for the Towards Carfree Cities (TCC) VIII conference. He recently moved to Portland which facilitated his return to a carfree lifestyle. His involvement with the TCC series began last summer when he traveled to Istanbul to attend TCC VII. Corey is a transportation engineer and has worked for David Evans and Associates, Inc for almost 2 years.

Marlowe Kulley
Marlowe Kulley

Duties: Website development and management, strategic planning, program development, advisory committee organization
Modes of transportation: Bike, walk, bus, light rail, streetcar, mind travel

Marlowe works at Portland’s Office of Sustainable Development. Her program, the BEST Business Center, helps small businesses in Portland go green. Marlowe loves the bianchi she built, climbing fake rocks, vegan food, making websites attempting to produce zero waste and vermicomposting.

Meghan Sinnott

Duties: Publicity, Advertising, Apparel
Modes of transportation: Bike, walk and bus

Meghan’s family knew something was wrong when she turned 16 and asked for a bike instead of a car. Nobody understood her protests when she was forced to get a permit and refused to pass the drivers test. At age 25, Meghan is happy to announce her permit has finally expired. Her interest in the carfree lifestyle started out of stubborness, morphed into respect for the environment and matured to a love of bike fun and bike funnists. Filmed by Bike and the Multnomah County Bike Fair are two favorite events with which Meghan is proud to volunteer.

Sara Stout
Sara Stout

Duties: Carfree Cities Art show at City Hall, facilitating meetigns and general support for apparel, fundraising and publicity

Sara Stout, a founding member of both Shift and the WCN, has been an advocate of social equity and sustainable mobility for over 20 years, melding community development, artistry and grassroots activism. She’s a founding member of a cross-section of Portland bicycling institutions, Citybikes, the co-op bike shop; Critical Mass, the visibility and advocacy movement; and the KBOO Bike Show, a monthly community radio show. She coordinated Portland’s Carfree Day celebrations in 2003 and 2004 and has facilitated an extensive variety of bicycle-oriented art projects.

Steph Routh
Stephanie Routh

Duties: Sponsorship, volunteer & keynote recruitment, reality checks
Modes of transportation: Bike, walk, skateboard, light rail, bus and carpool

Steph Routh is Resource Development Coordinator for Green Empowerment, a Portland-based nonprofit organization that empowers rural villages in Latin America and Asia by helping develop renewable energy and sustainable water delivery systems. Steph has been a bike commuter in Portland, New York City, northern China, and southern Thailand. She is currently on the board of Umbrella, the Steering Committee of World Carfree Network, and a paddler for the Castaways dragon boat team. Actively involved in Shift with Breakfast on the Bridges and Moving by Bike among other hallmarks of local pedaling culture, Steph’s favorite holiday comes in June by the name of Pedalpalooza, 2+ weeks of bike fun. Steph writes for www.ecometro.com’s SpokeN Word blog.
