World Carfree Network
The World Carfree Network (WCN) brings together organizations and individuals dedicated to promoting alternatives to car dependence and automobile-based planning at the international level. WCN works to reduce the human impact on the natural environment while improving the quality of life for all. It hosts an annual conference series titled Toward Cafree Cities, which will be held in Portland, OR (USA) for 2008. www.worldcarfree.net

Shift
Shift is a local organization in Portland that celebrates bicycle culture and provides encouragement to people who choose alternatives to private cars. Shift was selected by the World Carfree Network to organize the conference in Portland. www.shift2bikes.org

Carfree City USA
Carfree City USA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote carfree development that enhances local and global environmental quality, improves personal health, and fosters a sense of community — simply by minimizing the use of cars. Their specific goal is to create the first carfree city, town or large neighborhood in the United States. Carfree City USA will be providing accounting and logistical support to the conference. www.carfreecity.us

Portland State University
As Oregon’s largest and most urban university, Portland State Unversity (PSU) is proud to be a leader in sustainability practices and innovative transportation demand management. PSU’s vision is to enhance recognition of the value of higher education by continually strengthening the metropolitan environment and utilizing that strength for its own growth toward standards of excellence in accessible high quality research, teaching and outreach programs.
